Nebula

Curling up on a blanket
I named you for the birthplace of stars,
a fitting name, you entered the world with fire,
quickly making yourself ours
you are a cat we could do nothing but admire.

Of exploring your jungle you n'er tire
Guardian of the porch
Keeper of your shire,
standing in the window backlit as a torch

The cube you love remains in winter
a great ocean of heat,
much like your love, returned to us, our own brazier
you purring while half-asleep, making us complete.

A light in the darkness, you reminded us
that running fast, running free
could reduce the world to the blessedness
that through your eyes, we see

Through trial and tribulation
you have tirelessly persisted
to meet any challenge, you have risen
and with any change you have coexisted.

Now it is your time to depart,
To slip the surly bonds of this earth.
With the love pouring from my heart,
to eternity, go share your mirth.

Goodbye sweet Nebula,
goodbye
